Hello 3A families!
Allow us to introduce ourselves as your 3A Room Moms:
Jen Tozer- I am McKenna's mom and we have been at St. John XXIII since 2019 when she started kindergarten. I also have a first grader, Abby, and a 3 year old, Luke, who attends Paradise for Tots preschool. I'm a former third grade teacher so I'm really excited to be able to help out Ms. Kemmerling and Mrs. Marino this year.
Laurie Ball- I am Evan B.'s mom and we have also been at St. John XXIII since 2019 when Evan started kindergarten. I also have a daughter, Vivian, who is in preschool at Shepherd of the Desert. Also, I own and operate my own business Kidtastics Swim School for the past 15 years. As a first time room mom, I'm excited to help the St. John community and make sure our children have a fun filled year
A Few Changes...
1. Sweet Treat Fridays is now renamed as Friday Favorites. If you are new to the school, what usually happens is we send out a Sign Up Genius (SUG) that lists the Fridays throughout the year. People sign up for a few Fridays and bring in a treat for the teacher and aide. It's a great way to end the week on a happy note for the teachers and let them feel our appreciation.
Teachers were getting a bit sugared out so the thought was to switch it up a bit and include some of their other favorite things (i.e. snacks, gift cards) instead of only "sweet treats". Obviously sweet treats are still welcome!
The Sign Up Genius link is below. If you sign up for a day but something comes up, please let one of us know so we can make sure the teachers still have their Friday Favorite each week.

Marissa Heinley shared the google drive of Friday Favorites in last week's newsletter. You will actually be able to view the entire staff favorites, and with it on the drive there's no more searching for that elusive list that you have to go find in your email. We hope this makes things easier for everyone!

2. Individual gifts instead of Class gifts: We will be moving away from creating SUG's for the teachers' birthday gifts, Christmas, end of year gifts etc...This is due to the extra strain it puts on the office staff, aides and room parents trying to keep everything organized. Instead, the individual families are encouraged to bring in their own gifts for these special times. Teachers were surveyed and the majority indicated they preferred individual gifts over class gifts. On that note, please mark your calendars for their birthdays:
Ms. Kemmerling- May 4
Mrs. Marino- September 6
*Please remember to have your child bring in something special for Mrs. Marino this week!
Other important notes...
SAFE Environment- Please make sure you are up to date on your SAFE Environment training. For the first time in two years, we will be back to business as usual on campus which means many more opportunities for parents to volunteer on campus. For instance, the next big event coming up is Harvest Festival and we will be asking for lots of volunteers. If you want to be involved around school this year (and we highly encourage you to be), you must be SAFE Environment compliant for these activities. You can reference this info in the newsletters, and to check your status you may email Mary Hepsen at [email protected]
Class Parties- We will be sending out SUG's for your help with supplies/food/drinks for the class parties. We will be in touch at a later date for these.
Items needed- If you are able to donate any of the following items to our classroom, it would be greatly appreciated:
*Disposable water bottles
*Extra snacks
*Colored printer paper
*Smelly stickers
*Recess toys
We are looking forward to a great year! We hope to see many of you volunteering around campus this year. Please let us know if you ever have any questions. Thanks for your support!
Cheers,
Jen and Laurie
